What Is Dysport Used For?

Am I an Ideal Candidate?

This treatment is not ideal for those who are pregnant or nursing. In addition, it may not be ideal for patients with a neuromuscular disease, allergies to any ingredients in the formula, previous facial surgeries, weak muscles in the target area, skin inflammation or infection in the target area, or severe facial wrinkles or lines which cannot be erased when the skin is stretched apart. What Should I Expect?

Every patient’s experience is different, but here is a general idea of what you can look forward to when you pursue treatment at our professional office:
Consultation
Before your first treatment, we always sit down with you for an initial consultation. This appointment allows one of our doctors to examine your face and areas of concern, review your medical history, and ask you questions about your desired results and ideal image. You will also be able to ask your doctor any questions you have about the treatment, recovery period, or results. In addition, your doctor can recommend a suitable treatment plan for your unique situation, which may include routine injections 3-5 times per year to maintain your results.
As long as there are no medical or cosmetic concerns that may disqualify you, your doctor will approve you for treatment and give you a detailed list of instructions to follow as you prepare. You can begin looking forward to your very first appointment once your consultation is complete!
Treatment
On the day of your appointment, we recommend that you avoid wearing makeup or other topical skincare products in the target areas. Your doctor will cleanse your skin and may use ice or a gentle topical anesthetic to numb your skin and ensure your comfort during treatment. They will then use a small, thin needle to inject the product directly into the target facial muscles that cause your dynamic wrinkles. Depending on the number of areas you have treated, your appointment could last anywhere between 5-30 minutes.
Your doctor will give you instructions for your recovery period, which usually lasts just a few days. It’s important that you follow these instructions to ensure optimal results. Once your treatment is complete, you are free to return to your normal daily activities with zero downtime.
Recovery
It’s important to avoid touching, pressing, or rubbing the treated area for at least 48 hours. Any disturbance to the injected product could spread it to surrounding facial muscles and result in additional temporary muscle paralysis. This could impact your final results.
For most patients, results begin to develop during the first week. You can check your progress in a mirror by making some of your normal facial expressions. You should notice that the treated area does not move normally, even when you make extreme expressions. This is a good sign that your final results have appeared.
Results
Final results can develop anywhere between two to five days after treatment. Your treated muscles should remain immobile, even when you make your normal expressions. This should prevent dynamic wrinkles from appearing or deepening. Thanks to our doctors’ expert injections, your results should appear completely natural. They will last between four and six months, after which point you will begin to experience the movement of your treated muscles return, along with dynamic wrinkles. Most of our patients opt to have follow-up treatments at this point to maintain their ideal results.
Maintenance
While this treatment does not offer permanent results, you can enjoy new, rejuvenated skin for years to come by maintaining your results with regular appointments. These appointments are typically scheduled three to five times per year, depending on how long your final results last and your own personal preferences.
