About Exosomes
Exosomes are nanoparticles released by most parts of the body, including the skin. They are involved with communication between cells. They have the ability to send a signal to unhealthy cells that causes those cells to regenerate. Cell stimulation by exosomes triggers a natural healing process in the skin. (1) Exosomes cannot by themselves enter and affect the skin, so they are used directly after other treatments that have caused irritation and opened up its outer layer.
As you get older, your skin produces exosomes less frequently. When there are fewer exosomes to communicate amongst cells and trigger regeneration, cells remain unhealthy and your skin begins to weaken. This causes sagging, wrinkles, and fine lines. With exosome therapy, brand new exosomes interact with these skin cells and cause them to regenerate. They also interact with old exosomes and make them active again.
Benefits of Exosomes
Some of the benefits of exosome therapy include:
- Boosting of collagen and elastin production
- Improvement of wound healing and scars
- Regulation of skin pigmentation
This treatment can make your skin tighter, smoother, and firmer, all with a radiant glow. As rejuvenation therapy, it is remarkable because it utilizes the body’s own healing processes. There is nothing unnatural at play, as exosomes are part of a natural process that helps keep us looking young. In fact, the body continues to actively improve the skin for six months or more after initial treatment. Scientists are still discovering new uses for exosome therapy, and there are no common side effects. (2)
Which Treatments Can Use Exosomes?
Here at Nubo Spa, we offer two treatments in conjunction with exosomes: Vivace RF Microneedling and ACP Hair Restoration. Both of these treatments properly prepare the skin to receive and absorb topical exosome therapy.
RF Microneedling with Exosomes
Vivace RF Microneedling is a rejuvenation treatment that can make your skin smoother and firmer. It involves the specialized Vivace device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Microneedling is the practice of creating small controlled injuries on the skin in order to jumpstart natural healing processes that produce collagen. Collagen, like exosomes, helps make the skin smooth and tight. The applied radiofrequency energy creates a thermal reaction deeper in the skin’s layers, tightening the existing collagen in your skin and encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. This treatment can improve the texture and tone of your skin, and reduce age spots. It can also reduce wrinkles and fine lines, reduce the appearance of large pores, and make the skin tighter.
Hair Restoration with Exosomes
ACP Hair Restoration is a unique treatment that can restore your hair in places where it has thinned or receded. It involves extracting blood platelets from your body to create an ACP serum (autologous conditioned plasma). When this serum is injected into target areas of hair loss, it releases molecules that kickstart inactive hair follicles, supporting thicker and stronger hair growth.

Preparation
Exosome therapy is relatively easy on the skin, although there are ways you can prepare for it as well as for the treatment preceding it. Every treatment has its own set of instructions for how best to prepare, however it is always a safe bet to avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds. This will reduce sensitivity and discomfort during your procedure. Tanned skin can also react less efficiently to skin treatment.
Depending on the condition of your skin and the procedures you will be receiving, we may ask you to apply certain creams or facial cleansers. We may also ask that you stop or start taking certain medications.
Using Exosomes During Treatment
Microneedling Procedure
During a microneedling procedure, the skin is gently punctured with fine needles, creating microchannels that stimulate the body’s natural healing response. When combined with the application of exosomes, these microchannels act as pathways for the delivery of the powerful regenerative properties contained within the exosomes. This combination therapy not only accelerates the production of collagen, which improves skin firmness and elasticity, but also targets specific skin concerns such as acne scars, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.
ACP Hair Restoration Procedure
During an ACP hair restoration procedure, a trained provider draws a small amount of blood from the patient’s arm. They place the blood into a centrifuge, which spins it at high speeds, separating it into its component parts. From this, the provider extracts the plasma and prepares it for injection into the scalp. The exosomes are also injected, boosting hair growth and reducing hair loss in the area.
Recovery
Exosome therapy can speed up the recovery time for the treatments that it accompanies. Because it is applied right after the initial procedure, it will immediately begin accelerating the healing process. It will prevent and reduce the swelling, bruising and discomfort that often come from skin treatments.
While your skin is healing, you should avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds. Do not use any skin care products or cleansers for 24 hours after your treatment.
Results

Exosome therapy can enhance the results of the treatments that it accompanies. This can cut down on the total number of treatments that you might need. You should be able to see the results of your treatment two to six weeks afterwards. The natural regenerative effects will make your skin look more hydrated and healthy. Your skin will be smoother, firmer, shinier, and all-around more youthful.

FAQ
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are nanoparticles produced by almost every kind of cell in the human body. They contain proteins, amino acids, lipids, peptides, growth factors, and more. They are responsible for communicating amongst cells. They can detect unhealthy cells and transmit a kind of message to them, causing them to regenerate. In recent years, isolation of exosomes from stem cells for therapeutic use has become popular. Their regenerative properties have yet to be fully explored by the world of medicine.
What is exosome therapy like?
Exosomes are typically used as add-on to other procedures. This is because exosomes alone cannot penetrate and affect the skin. Examples of this type of initial procedure include microneedling, laser treatments, chemical peels, and hair restoration.
Are exosomes safe?
Exosomes are derived directly from stem cells and immediately frozen to maintain their viability. They are highly present in almost every area of the human body, so they do not pose the threat of a foreign substance. Studies have shown that they are effectively therapeutic with little to no side effects. For these reasons, most experts agree that exosomes are safe for use in therapeutic and cosmetic treatments.
