A biostimulator is an injectable treatment that raises your skin’s levels of collagen to provide natural-looking volume. Unlike some dermal fillers that increase volume by binding to water molecules in the skin, biostimulators allow for longer-lasting results and gradual improvements.
If you would like to address signs of aging with treatments that require minimal downtime, Nubo Spa can help. Schedule an appointment online today or call (510) 637-9394 to learn more about the biostimulators we offer!

About Biostimulators
With over 25 million non-surgical aesthetic treatments performed in 2023 alone, the world of cosmetic rejuvenation continues to expand, and injectable solutions like biostimulators are a mainstay. (1) In fact, injectables now make up nearly a third of all non-surgical procedures, thanks to their versatility and transformative results. (2)
By promoting natural collagen growth, biostimulators help restore volume without causing an ‘overdone’ or unnatural look. At Nubo Spa, we offer Sculptra to help you achieve meaningful results.
Every treatment is customized to you, ensuring results that look and feel entirely natural. With time, your skin will appear firmer, smoother, and more luminous, making biostimulators a powerful choice for those seeking graceful, lasting rejuvenation.
Sculptra
Sculptra (Sculptra®) is a biostimulator and dermal filler that contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Sculptra works gradually over time as collagen production is increased. It can effectively rejuvenate several concerns throughout the body, (3) including:
- Cheeks: Replacing lost volume and enhancing collagen production can lead to plumper cheeks and a more youthful look.
- Neck and Chest: We can administer the formula to the decolletage to address changes to your appearance from aging.
- Arms and Hands: Sculptra can help you achieve fuller, smoother arms and hands. (3)
- Abdomen: Sculptra can diminish the appearance of hip dips or liposuction irregularities, leading to a smoother, more attractive physique.
- Legs and Feet: Just like arms and hands, Sculptra can address concerns throughout your legs and feet. (3)
Sculptra for Body
Sculptra can also be used to perform noninvasive body contouring treatments, including a non-surgical Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). This is an ideal choice for patients seeking subtle yet noticeable improvements without the downtime or risks associated with surgery. Results appear progressively over several weeks, offering a natural-looking transformation in the buttocks that continues to improve with time.
Benefits
Biostimulators offer several different treatment and appearance benefits, some of which include:
- Minimal downtime: Biostimulators only require quick, precise injections, eliminating the need for significant recovery periods.
- Gentle, nonsurgical treatment: Biostimulator injections do not require incisions, anesthesia, or surgical techniques.
- Balanced features: Replacing lost volume can lead to a balanced, proportionate, and attractive appearance.
- Increased collagen levels: Higher collagen levels lead to enhanced skin health and quality, meaning your results will gradually improve as your skin can better repair itself.
- Long-lasting results: Biostimulator results can last up to two years before reinjection is recommended.
- Customizable treatment plan: Each biostimulator injection plan is carefully customized and tailored to address each patient’s unique concerns, meaning your results will harmonize with your existing features and anatomy.
Candidates
Biostimulators can benefit most patients who wish to define contours and address volume loss, wrinkles, and fine lines. Patients should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations, and they should be willing to openly communicate and collaborate with their Nubo Spa injection specialist. Biostimulators are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding patients, anyone with any allergies to the ingredients, anyone with active skin infections or blood-clotting disorders, and a handful of other conditions. Your eligibility will be determined during your consultation, and if you cannot receive biostimulators, we would be happy to help you find an effective alternative!

Treatment Process
The biostimulator injection process is simple. Patients are advised to arrive at their appointment with clean skin, without any makeup or skincare products. Upon arrival, we will cleanse your skin, and we may mark the targeted injection sites to ensure accuracy. We will carefully inject the selected biostimulator formulas into the targeted areas. Injections are well-tolerated, with most patients only feeling a small pinch. We can also numb the area with a cold compress or apply a mild local anesthetic if you are particularly sensitive to injections.
After your treatment, you can return to most of your normal activities as long as you avoid excessive sun exposure and certain strenuous activities to protect your skin. The length of your treatment will depend on the number of areas you would like to treat and whether you would benefit from additional treatments to address your aesthetic goals.
After Your Treatment
Minor swelling, redness, and soreness are common after injections, but these side effects will fade quickly. Although this treatment does not require downtime, we do advise patients to relax and take it easy and not exercise directly after treatment. After 24-48 hours, you can resume intense exercise. You should also avoid facials and skin resurfacing treatments that could irritate your skin for the time being. We will provide additional specific instructions to help you optimize your results during your consultation at our office.
Biostimulators vs. Neuromodulators
Although they both help to reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate, neuromodulators differ from biostimulators in their mechanism of action. Neuromodulators such as Botox, Daxxify, and Dysport reduce wrinkles by preventing repetitive muscle movements. Over time, muscle movements lead to the formation of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. By temporarily inhibiting these muscle movements, these signs of aging will not appear, and new ones can be prevented from forming if treatments are regular.
Botox, Daxxify, and Dysport are formulated from botulinum toxin type A. When injected, this inhibits the release of acetylcholine, which is needed for muscle activation. Because this is prevented, the muscles cannot move, keeping them in a relaxed, youthful-looking state.
Neuromodulators and biostimulators can be received at the same time, allowing patients to address multiple concerns with multiple methods, leading to longer-lasting, comprehensive rejuvenation.
Cost of Biostimulators in Berkeley, CA

FAQ
Do biostimulator injections hurt?
Most patients only report feeling a small pinch during their injection process. Many biostimulators are infused with lidocaine to minimize discomfort.
How many biostimulator treatments will I need to achieve my desired results?
This will depend on your unique aesthetic goals. After assessing your concerns during a consultation, your injector may recommend one treatment or a series of treatments. It is important to keep in mind that the results of biostimulators develop gradually, so it takes some time for your desired results to appear.
Are biostimulators the same as fillers?
Biostimulators can be dermal fillers, but not all dermal fillers are biostimulators. Biostimulators are a distinct group of injectables that trigger collagen production. However, many biostimulators can also add natural-looking volume to the skin to immediately enhance its appearance.
Can I combine biostimulators with other treatments?
Yes! Biostimulators can be received alongside neuromodulator injections like Botox, or they can be received alongside dermal fillers. Some patients can receive several different types of injectables in the same session!
Who should not receive biostimulator injections?
Several conditions may prevent people from receiving biostimulator injections. Pregnant or breastfeeding patients, those with blood-clotting disorders, and anyone with allergies to the ingredients in the biostimulator, and more, may not be eligible. However, we may be able to find a suitable alternative during the consultation.
Will I need to recover from biostimulator injections?
Because biostimulators are a non-surgical treatment, there is no significant downtime or recovery period. However, we may recommend that you take the rest of your day easy. Some patients experience mild swelling or soreness at their injection site, but this fades quickly and can easily be managed. We recommend not participating in strenuous activities the same day as the injection, and avoiding harsh or abrasive skin care products or treatments.
