About PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated plasma serum that is sourced from a sample of the patient’s own blood, with the average platelet count in PRP being over four times that in whole blood. (1) PRP contains over 20 different types of growth factors, (2) as well as small proteins called cytokines, which can help aid in wound healing, reduce inflammation, and encourage new cell growth. The interaction of these different growth factors can help stimulate a process called angiogenesis, or the formation of new blood vessels, which can also alleviate inflammation, stimulate the production of collagen, and even encourage new hair growth. (3)

PRP for Facial Rejuvenation

PRP facial rejuvenation is a minimally invasive treatment that helps improve the appearance and quality of the facial skin. PRP can be used to help reduce the appearance of dark undereye circles and acne scars, while also minimizing visible wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. Additionally, PRP is thought to stimulate collagen and elastin production, leading to an improvement in the skin’s overall tone and texture.

PRP for Hair Restoration

At Nubo Spa, we also offer PRP for hair restoration. PRP can be injected into the scalp to help enhance and restore growth in patchy, thinning, or shedding areas. Hair loss is a common problem that affects many individuals worldwide, both men and women. (4) Studies have shown that when PRP is injected into the scalp, the platelets activate and release multiple growth factors, which are thought to promote hair growth. (3)

Benefits of PRP

PRP treatments come with numerous benefits, including:

  • Natural Healing: Because PRP serums are derived from your own blood, there is a reduced risk of complications like immune responses.
  • Minimally Invasive: This procedure does not require incisions, general anesthesia, or an extensive recovery.
  • Versatile Application: PRP can be applied in different areas to address a wide variety of indications.
  • Reduced Inflammation: Studies have shown that PRP can alleviate inflammation, promoting faster healing and recovery in certain areas. (2)
  • Stimulated Collagen Production: The growth factors found in PRP can induce collagen synthesis, enhancing the elasticity, texture, tone, and overall quality of the skin.
  • Hair Regrowth: PRP can improve hair restoration efforts, diminishing hair loss patterns and enhancing the density and thickness of new growth.

Suitable Candidates for PRP

The ideal candidates for PRP treatment include those interested in non-surgical and natural solutions for their concerns. Patients interested in our PRP treatments also possess mild to moderate skin concerns, such as wrinkles, fine lines, or creases, or mild to moderate signs of hair loss. All interested candidates should be in good overall health, free of any underlying medical conditions or blood disorders that may inhibit healing. Realistic expectations should also be held, as PRP treatments offer gradual results. One of our specialists will determine each patient’s candidacy during their consultation.

Personal Consultation

Each patient is asked to attend a personal consultation before beginning their PRP treatment. This consultation is a chance for us to meet each patient and to understand how we can best help. Your specialist will begin by asking about your medical history, concerns, and desired treatment outcome. An evaluation of your physical condition may also be conducted if necessary. After determining your candidacy, we will craft your treatment plan.

To schedule your personal consultation, please call or text our office at (510) 637-9394 or contact us online, and a member of our team will be in touch with you shortly!

Preparation

Each patient will receive a set of personalized preparation instructions at their consultation, once their treatment has been decided upon. Preparation for all of our PRP treatments is fairly straightforward, but each instruction should be followed for the best possible outcome.

Patients may be asked to temporarily cease the use of certain medications or supplements, especially those with blood-thinning properties. Alcohol consumption should be avoided, as well as excessive sun exposure. Patients should also eat nutritiously and hydrate well before their treatment.

Procedure

Each PRP treatment will begin by drawing a small sample of blood from the arm. The sample is then processed through a centrifuge to separate platelets and plasma from the other blood components. While processing the PRP, we may apply a topical anesthetic to the injection site, giving it sufficient time to take effect and reduce discomfort. Once prepared, the serum is injected into various points on the face or scalp to help revitalize the area and promote new cell growth. The procedure can last anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how large the treatment area is or how many areas are being targeted. Patients receiving PRP for facial rejuvenation are recommended for retreatment every 4 to 8 weeks, while hair restoration patients are recommended to return every 4 to 6 months.

Recovery

PRP Nubo Spa

As platelet-rich plasma treatments are minimally invasive and non-surgical, minimal recovery is required. Patients can usually return to their daily routines immediately, but we recommend avoiding physical activities or other strenuous tasks until approved. Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness may be experienced at the injection sites, but these effects will dissipate on their own within several days. We will provide each patient with further recovery instructions at their consultation.

Results

PRP Facial Rejuvenation Results

PRP facial rejuvenation typically offers gradual improvements as collagen and elastin levels rise. Many patients can notice an improvement in the appearance and visibility of fine lines, creases, and wrinkles, as well as an overall enhancement to the tone, texture, and overall quality of the skin. Patients are generally advised to return every 4-8 weeks for retreatment, and most patients see the best results after four sessions.

PRP Hair Restoration Results

The initial effects of PRP hair regrowth are very subtle, but the results usually become more apparent after approximately three months of treatment. Patients can enjoy newer and denser hair growth in areas that may have previously experienced thinning or shedding. For the best results, patients are recommended to return for maintenance treatments every 4-6 months.
