Understanding the differences between Dysport and Botox can help you decide which injectable is best for you. Both Dysport and Botox are neuromodulators that work by limiting the release of acetylcholine to reduce repetitive muscle contractions that create wrinkles. Reducing repetitive muscle movements can help you achieve a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. (1)
At Nubo Spa, we offer both Dysport and Botox, and we would be happy to guide you through your options.

Dysport vs. Botox
As we get older, our skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin—proteins that give it strength and elasticity—slows down. This gradual decline leads to fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of firmness. With these injectables, we can minimize signs of aging so you can achieve smoother skin.
Dysport is ideal for patients who would like to address the glabellar lines, or the 11 lines in between the brows. Dysport has a slightly different formulation and tends to diffuse more broadly than Botox, which can make it well-suited for treating larger areas like the forehead. Dysport was first formulated in 1991 and is approved for use in more than 70 countries. (2)
Botox is known for its precise targeting. It is commonly used to address several different concerns, including forehead lines and fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), in addition to glabellar lines.
Benefits
Patients can enjoy several benefits from Dysport or Botox injections, including:
- Minimally invasive treatment: With either of these two well-tolerated injectables, we can achieve noticeable improvements with essentially no downtime.
- Smoother skin: We can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to help you achieve smoother skin and a more youthful-looking appearance.
- Long-lasting results: Results can last several months before patients are eligible for reinjection.
- Prejuvenation: Neuromodulators are often considered a form of ‘prejuvenation’, helping younger patients prevent the formation of deep lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles before signs of aging become more pronounced.

How to Prepare
To prepare for your treatment, you may be advised to stop taking certain medications or supplements with blood-thinning properties, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E, as these can increase the risk of bruising at the injection site. It’s important to disclose any medications, herbal supplements, or over-the-counter products you’re currently taking during your consultation so your injector can give you tailored recommendations.
You should stop drinking alcohol for 48 hours before and after receiving your injections for optimal results, as alcohol can thin the blood and may interfere with the healing process.
On the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. Avoid applying heavy creams, lotions, or SPF beforehand.
Treatment Process
During your treatment, we will cleanse your skin and administer the chosen injectable. If necessary, we can administer a series of injections to multiple locations to enhance your results. You may feel a slight pinching or stinging sensation with each injection, but discomfort is usually minimal and brief. We use ultra-fine needles to ensure precision and minimize pain, and most patients tolerate the procedure very well without the need for anesthesia.
The treatment is known as a “lunchtime” treatment because it typically takes no longer than 30 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities afterward, as long as you follow the precautions outlined by your injector.
After Your Treatment
After your treatment, you may experience swelling or minor skin irritation near the treatment area. You should avoid putting pressure on the treatment area and try to remain in an upright position for at least 4 hours after you receive the treatment. Avoid vigorous exercise, heat exposure (such as saunas or hot showers), and makeup application for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of complications.
Results
After receiving treatment, you can enjoy a significant improvement in your appearance. Initial changes may be noticeable within 3 to 5 days, with gradual enhancement as the neuromodulator takes full effect. Results typically last between 3 to 4 months, depending on your metabolism, lifestyle, and treatment area. Regular maintenance appointments are recommended to prevent new lines from forming and existing lines from worsening.
Additional Treatments
HydraFacial™ Stylus
A HydraFacial™ stylus treatment is a multi-step dermabrasion treatment that brightens your appearance and reduces signs of aging with Vortex-Fusion™ technology. If you are looking to achieve a “glass skin” look, this treatment can help you hydrate the skin with antioxidant-infused serums. We can also improve the appearance of dry, oily, and/or dull skin. Detoxifying and exfoliating the skin removes impurities to reduce acne and prevent breakouts. Acne affects approximately 45 million people in the United States. (3) Hydrafacial™ has been shown to improve acne symptoms and promote clearer skin with consistent treatment.
Exosomes
Exosomes can improve your appearance by raising your skin’s collagen levels to increase its elasticity and improve moisture retention. Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles that support skin repair by enhancing cellular communication and stimulating regeneration. This emerging form of regenerative medicine is a holistic treatment that leverages the body’s natural healing process. We can also combine HydraFacial™ with exosomes for enhanced results.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can restore volume and create a smoother, plumper appearance. We can administer a flexible formula beneath the skin to provide natural-looking volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. We offer different formulas for both delicate and deep tissue to help you enhance your appearance for lasting results and minimal downtime.
