About Microneedling
Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that utilizes a device fashioned with rows of small needles to create controlled micropunctures in the skin. By carefully puncturing the skin in targeted areas, treatment triggers the body’s natural healing responses, which in turn heighten collagen and elastin production. (1)
Collagen and Elastin
Collagen and elastin are two proteins found within the skin that help maintain its youthful appearance, elasticity, and structure. As we age, the production of these proteins slows down, which can lead to the development of wrinkles, creases, sagging skin, and accelerate other signs of aging. (2) Microneedling stimulates neocollagenesis, or the production of collagen, to help revitalize your skin.
Microneedling Benefits
Microneedling offers numerous advantages, several of which include:
- Improved Skin Texture: Microneedling can reduce any roughness of the skin, making it look and feel softer, smoother, and more youthful.
- Reduced Fine Lines: By stimulating neocollagenesis, patients often notice a reduction in creases, wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of premature aging.
- Enhanced Absorption: The microscopic channels created by the fine needles during treatment allow serums and topical treatments to penetrate deeper layers of the dermis, enhancing their efficacy.
- Minimally Invasive Procedure: Microneedling offers substantial benefits with less risk and recovery time in comparison to surgical intervention.
- Quick Recovery Time: Most patients can return to their daily routines immediately or the day after microneedling.
- Safe for Most Skin Types: Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of skin types and tones.
Candidates
Microneedling is ideal for anyone interested in enhancing the appearance, texture, or health of their skin. This treatment can safely be performed on all skin tones or types, meaning that most patients make suitable candidates. This treatment is especially effective when addressing uneven skin texturing or tone, melasma, scarring, and acne-prone skin. Each potential patient should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations about what this treatment can accomplish.
Those with certain skin conditions, such as active acne, active cold sores, warts, moderate-to-severe eczema, or psoriasis, as well as pregnant or immunosuppressed patients, may not be recommended to undergo this treatment. However, we still encourage those who are ineligible for microneedling to schedule a consultation so that our team may find a suitable substitution.
Personal Consultation
The first step to rejuvenating your skin is attending a personal consultation. During your appointment, one of our specialists will review your medical history and discuss your skin concerns and treatment goals with you. They will also evaluate the condition of your facial skin. Throughout the consultation, you will learn more about what microneedling entails and how it can benefit your skin’s health and appearance. The specialist will then develop your personalized treatment plan using the information gathered throughout the conversation. Our team strives to provide all the information you need to make informed and empowering decisions about your appearance, health, and wellness.

Preparation
To prepare for your microneedling treatment, you may be asked to temporarily modify your skincare routine to avoid harsh, heavy, or acidic/alkaline products. These may include products such as exfoliants, retinoids, and chemical peels. You will also need to avoid taking blood-thinning medications and supplements. On the day of your appointment, we ask that you arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is free from any skincare products or makeup residue. Any further instructions will be provided during your personal consultation.
Procedure
Upon arrival, your skin will be cleansed and sanitized in preparation for your treatment. One of our specialists will apply a topical anesthetic to help minimize any potential discomfort that may be experienced.
Once you are relaxed and comfortable, your specialist will use a microneedling device fashioned with rows of fine needles to gently puncture the skin’s surface. They will pass the device over the skin several times to ensure the punctures are evenly distributed. Specialized serums and skin products can be applied to the skin’s surface, absorbing effectively through the created microchannels. These added products are designed to rejuvenate the skin and enhance your results.
Microneedling treatments typically take around 30 minutes or less from start to finish.
Recovery
You will be able to return to your daily activities following your treatment, as there is no required downtime associated with our microneedling procedure. You may experience redness, mild swelling, or flaking skin after your appointment, but these effects typically subside within two to three days. (1) You will also need to continue avoiding the use of harsh, heavy, and acidic or alkaline skincare products for at least one week to allow your skin to fully recover. A full set of detailed recovery instructions will be discussed and provided to you during your consultation, so you know what to expect in advance.
Results

You will be able to see initial improvements shortly after your treatment, but these effects will become more apparent as your collagen levels are gradually replenished. The treatment softens acne scars, reduces pigmentation issues, and diminishes other signs of premature aging. Over time, your skin’s health, appearance, and quality improve, revealing a smoother texture and more even tone. While a series of treatments delivers the best results, many patients see noticeable enhancements after just one session.
Corresponding Procedures
PRP Facial Rejuvenation
At Nubo Spa, we offer many procedures that can easily be performed alongside your microneedling treatment. One of our most popular complementary procedures is our PRP facial rejuvenation treatment. This treatment utilizes the natural plasma and growth factors found within your blood to further enhance your collagen and elastin levels. PRP involves drawing a sample of your blood and processing it to separate the platelets. These platelets are then reinjected or topically applied to your skin to enhance its appearance. When applied through the microchannels created during microneedling, the plasma serum forms a fibrin matrix that activates fibroblasts to release growth factors, stimulating your skin to renew and rejuvenate itself.
